I just heard from someone involved in the process that Capt. Daniel Racine will be the new Police Chief. It seems that representatives from the different neighborhood groups feel that he is the one candidate that has previously been involved with the community groups. I am not sure if that is the most important requirement for the Police Chief.
I personally don't know much about him, since I did not have a chance to view the questioning by the representatives from the different neighborhood groups, so I am not sure how effective he will be.
I must say that I was very impressed with Deputy Chief Cathleen Moniz from watching the last City Council meeting. I am not sure if Fall River is willing to promote a woman to Police Chief. From what I have seen so far, the people of Fall River don't seem to have confidence in women when it comes to high ranking positions within the City.

It is quite sad that the people of Fall River (not all, of course) have little to no faith in women.
The good ole' boys club is so ingrained in this city and many are truly afraid of the common sense that will come along with a woman in the top spot.
We saw this in the mayoral election. Cathy Ann Viveiros was clearly the better candidate (Mr. Flanagan has proven that to us multiple times in the last couple months) and yet, the people of Fall River chose based on body parts not smarts.
Maybe the woman was just unqualified. I am tired of all of these women wanting the same rights as men. Sorry it wont happen.

I also watched the interviews, which I thought was a useless exercise. The questions from most participants were rediculous and the intelligence of most of them could fit in a thimble. Hey Mayor, great way to skirt your responsibilities yet again!. I'm pretty tired of this guy already.
Now back to the selection. I also thought Dep. Muniz was far and away the most qualified candidate. But the very thought that a woman could be selected as Chief in Fall River was probably DOA because of the City's mysoginistic old boys club would never allow it. Maybe it's a cultural thing. This City is trapped in the 1950's and is facing certain death with the state vultures ready to pounce and take over....I hope it happen fast...between bad politicians who won't appoint qualified women to being #3 on the list of bad schools in the state, we're going to hell in a handbasket FAST!
